1. Who We Are

Jengo is a property management platform operated by Jengoke Solutions, based in Nairobi, Kenya. We help landlords manage their properties, tenants, and collections in one place. Jengo acts as a Data Controller for landlord account information, and as a Data Processor on behalf of landlords for tenant data they manage through the platform.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide when you create and use your account, including your name, contact details, business information, KRA PIN, and the property and tenant records you manage through our platform. This may include tenant national ID numbers, phone numbers, and payment references where required for property management and legal compliance.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process personal data under the following legal bases recognised by the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019:

• Consent — given at registration and for optional communications
• Contractual necessity — to provide the property management service you signed up for
• Legal obligation — tax records, KRA reporting, and statutory retention requirements
• Legitimate interest — fraud prevention, platform security, and service improvement

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to provide the Jengo service — including recording and reconciling property payment information, sending notifications to your tenants, generating documents, and meeting our legal obligations under Kenyan law. We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.

5. Who We Share Data With

We do not sell your data. To deliver the platform, limited data is shared with the following categories of service providers, each bound by their own data protection obligations:

• Payment connectivity — Safaricom M-Pesa, where configured by an account owner, to support transaction confirmation and reconciliation for payments made directly to the owner's payment destination. Jengo does not hold landlord or tenant funds.
• Messaging — WhatsApp Business (Meta) and SMS providers, to deliver notifications you request
• Email delivery — for account and transactional emails
• Cloud hosting — Amazon Web Services, to securely store and run the platform
• Tax authorities — the Kenya Revenue Authority, only as required by law for tax invoicing

We do not disclose the specific internal systems, vendors, or technical architecture used to deliver these services beyond what is necessary for transparency under the KDPA.

6. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously. Your account is protected by a password and a personal PIN. All data transmitted to and from Jengo is encrypted in transit, and sensitive fields such as identification numbers and payment credentials are encrypted at rest.

7. Data Retention

We retain your records for as long as your account remains active and for a period thereafter as required by Kenyan financial and tax regulations (generally 7 years for financial records). Tenant data is retained for the duration of the tenancy and a limited period after, in line with legal claims limitation periods. You can request earlier deletion at any time — see Section 8.

8. Your Rights Under the KDPA

Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”)
• Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
• Object to certain types of processing
• Withdraw consent at any time

9. International Data Transfers

Jengo's infrastructure is hosted with Amazon Web Services. Where data is processed outside Kenya, it is protected by contractual safeguards equivalent to those required under the KDPA.

10. Lodging a Complaint

If you believe your data protection rights have been violated, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) Kenya at odpc.go.ke, or by email at info@odpc.go.ke, in addition to contacting us directly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to you via email or WhatsApp before they take effect.
